Young Producers

What did we do?

Co-relate and the Margate Bookie brought together young creatives to plan, produce, fund and execute their own series of events in September and October 2021. The young producers worked throughout the pandemic and put in a successful bid to Arts Council England to stage three exciting events:

a special edition Sad Poets Doorstep Club with Joelle Taylor and Tyrone Lewis
a sold-out Erotica writing workshop with Daisy Buchanan
Making Waves Showcase and Exhibition with spoken word artist Henry Madd and musician Jalen N'Gonda.

Who are the young producers?

Pernela Chea

Pernela Chea (aka Chea Wing Sum) is currently employed as a paralegal in Hong Kong. In her legal education she took a course in Critical Race Theory, Gender-Based Justice, and Sexuality, which has greatly informed her later creative work. Pernela has been writing erotica for six years and slam poetry for 10. She was the Vice President of her university's Creative Writing Society, and performed slam poetry at various events such as the UKC #RespectTheNo (UKC Women's Campaign) cabaret night and UniSlam 2019.

Louise Devismes

Louise Devismes is a published French poet based in Canterbury, and has achieved a first in her Media and Creative Writing degree. She has performed her poetry around Kent, and represented Canterbury in the 2021 edition of UniSlam. Her work is primarily focused on femininity and coming of age, and has been played on BBC Radio Kent.

Carly Maling

Carly is a multipotentialite with over five years experience in fine art, media and events. She received her BA from UAL Wimbledon College of Arts in 2019 and has gone onto study MA photography part-time with Falmouth Flexible. She has been included in art exhibitions UK wide, including Is This Tomorrow (a day in 2119) at the Whitechapel Gallery. Recently, Carly has switched her focus from fine art to writing. She has been published across a number of online publications and has recently taken up a new position as a features writer for Unicorn Magazine.

Crow Rudd

Crow Rudd, or Anxious Anarchist Poetry (they/them), is a disabled nonbinary queer published punk poet, slam champion, and events producer based in York. With various poems in zines and anthologies, Crow has run amok in the Northern poetry scene, culminating in their debut poetry collection i am a thing of rough edges; out now with Whisky & Beards Publishing. Crow’s latest projects include founding the UK Trans & Nonbinary Poets Network and helping to produce Poeticon.
