New Year, New Publishers
New Year, New Publishers
Following the Margate Bookie Young Producers pilot project, which brought together young creatives to plan, produce, fund and execute literature events, we’re supporting a new Margate Bookie programme to introduce young people to publishing.
Their New Publishers programme, led by long-standing Bookie team member Justin Brown and sponsored by Kent County Council’s Reconnect and Amazon Literary Partnership, brings together young people and local publishers to share skills and equip people to start their own publications.
It takes learning from the Young Producers programme and Margate Bookie’s successful Zine project to explore what it takes to put together a publication.
Justin will share his lessons learnt over three successive zines and bring in local experts in editing, proofreading, marketing and production during the 6-week programme at the Margate Library, hosted with the kind support of Kent Libraries.
Aimed at 16-25 year olds in the local area, the programme runs every Saturday through February to mid March at Margate Library, training participants in key areas of the publishing process, while giving them hands-on experience in creating published works.
Take a look at Margate Bookie’s New Publishers page for more information, and if you know anyone between 16 and 25, living in Thanet, and would be interested in taking part, make sure they register on the link above before Friday 27 Jan 2023.
